Nurturing hearts and minds

We can to end of our senses topic this week, we played games to remember we senses we have learnt about.

During art we produced Alma Thomas inspired collages, during our maths we have looked at the number 1, 2,and 3, how we can make those numbers and what 1 more would be.

Have a fab half term everyone, enjoy the three reading books which will be coming home on Friday, and practice your phonics sounds.

Todays Pumpkin party was such fun, ask the children what they enjoyed the most. Mrs Pill in the kitchen kindly made us some pumpkin biscuits which we then decorated and ate. The children will be bringing some some sweet treats to celebrate our party.

A very busy week in Reception class, we have been working hard on building patterns, finding things in our class which can create a repeating pattern. During maths we have also looked at the amounts 1, 2, and 3 investigating how they are made, such as 1 and 1 more makes 2.

In phonics this week the children have learnt ck, e, u and r, working well on forming the letters in literacy as well as starting to write cvc words, such as red, bug and run.

During our art lessons we took a lovely walk to the school garden, using our sense of sight to notice the changing leaves during autumn, we took bark and leaf rubbings.

We have used our sense of taste and smell, trying to guess what we are smelling and tasting, marmite wasn't really a success!

This week the children have been working on phonics sounds, you will receive phonics sheets in the book bags, which you can use at home to help build on phonics knowledge. We have also been counting very carefully, touching each item as we count, looking at how we can then split our numbers in to groups and what we notice, as well as looking at the size of various objects and ordering the size.

Reading books have started to come home, presently we are sending two books, please enjoy these books with your children at home, these books live in book bags, so we can also read with the children at school. Record when your child has read in the reading record book.

This week the children have started to look at phonics, we have been looking at s, a, t, and p, see if your children can find things starting with these sounds.

We have also decided on what would be good class rules to help make a brilliant classroom for learning.

Our maths started this week, we have been comparing objects, finding matching items and groups.

Our Reception children have been very busy getting to know their new friends, just look at those happy faces.

Please ask your child about their "observing goggles?"  The children used their careful observing skills to find lots of circles in their environment.  They also drew LOTS of circles using chalk, we talked about the different sizes of circles.
