Year 4 - Science

9 May 2024 (by Cassie Greaves (Cassie Greaves))

Year 4 have been learning about the digestive system in science.

Over the past few weeks, Year 4 have been looking at the digestive system in science.

We have learnt about our teeth, their names and their uses, we then made a model of our own teeth out of clay.

We discovered that our teeth are the first stage of our digestive system.

Then, we recreated the digestive process using a masher to grind the food as our molars would do, orange juice to replicate stomach acid and tights to show how the small intestine absorbs all of the nutrients. We had fun getting a little messy and seeing how our digestive system works.

This week, we had an active science lesson where children used their bodies to create different body parts.

Ask your children about the digestive system and let them wow you with their knowledge - can they remember what the oesophagus is or how long the small intestine is?
