Investigating the rate of dissolving
Children in year 5 have been continuing with their materials topic. They now understand the difference between dissolving and melting, and recognise that when a solid dissolves into a liquid, a solution is created. We have already investigated which materials are soluble and insoluble. This week, we received a letter, from a café owner called Florence Flour. She asked us to find out the ideal temperature for her coffees, to ensure the sugar dissolves as quickly as possible. We planned a comparative test, investigating the rate of dissolving. We compared different temperatures of water, measuring this carefully and counting the amount of stirs it took, for the sugar to dissolve.
