Year 3 Rock Science7 February 2020 (by Victoria Woosey) |
Yesterday we spent the afternoon carrying out a series of mini investigations and observing the changes to our rocks in order to identify and classify them accurately.
As Petrologists (Rock Scientists) we tested their permeability, hardness and how they reacted to vinegar. We made sure that our tests were fair, used pipettes to measure the liquids and recorded our findings.
Finally,, once we had all the answers, we were able to use a classification key to decide whether our rocks were IGNEOUS, SEDIMENTARY or METAMORPHIC.
We had lots of fun and are now preparing to become curators in a rock museum!
